this is gonna be primo

as an introduction to new blog all things RAD, here is a collection of offerings from the warriors of radness blog. the world can never be too radical a place.

(note: surfed this break, county line, on saturday)

when i was your age i was seven

so today was a watershed day for ASP who may have joined twitter for purely informational reasons (like needing to know if michael showalter's cats are fighting or not). have to say, i'm already feeling the need to tweet. i haven't. but i can tell right now that i will. why? i really couldn't say. when? only time will tell. to who? i suppose my three "followers" who i feel an obligation to. you can join them and "follow" my nonposts here. the day of reckoning is nigh.

to counterbalance this potentially gross lapse in judgment i want to share some of my favorite works by ed ruscha which i think represent a core aesthetic component of novel designs and are incredibly almost all available online here. remember, brave men run in my family.

there was music in the cafes at night and revolution in the air

paul shaw documents the typography of brooklyn, including the "hotel montague" lettering near the promenade. apparently the montague, along with next-door neighbor the grosvenor, was one of brooklyn's first apartment buildings! it became a hotel at the turn of the century, turned into welfare housing in the 70s, and reverted back to co-op apartments in the 80s. two decades later, i moved in. standard gentrification.

i don't mean to vilify an entire country, but mexico is a horrible place

just caught a sneak preview of rian johnson's new film the brothers bloom. the film features a brilliant score and soundtrack in addition to a noble commitment to visual gags, paying a heavy debt to the work of wes a. max records lends a somewhat disappointing performance as a younger bloom, which doesn't bode well for where the wild things are. alas, otherwise a fun film that deserves to be seen. a worth follow up to brick.

i will do this until i inevitably say something i regret

in the past month or so, twitter seems to have transformed from a fringe blogger thing into a national phenomenon. i'm still not totally sure how it works and my only real engagement with it is keeping up to speed on ed droste's latest antics/the status of new gbear album. this talking points memo post peaked my interest though. apparently, the republican party is trying to get in on the twitter game, ostensibly to reach out to the obama generation. as could be expected, they massively f'ed up their first foray into the new technology:

Yesterday the Virginia GOP came very close to taking control of the state Senate, nearly luring a Democratic Senator to switch parties and put them at a 20-20 tie, which would have been broken by the Republican Lt. Governor. Then Jeff Frederick, a state legislator and the party chairman, ruined it all by Twittering this:
Big news coming out of Senate: Apparently one dem is either switching or leaving the dem caucus. Negotiations for power sharing underway.
The Dems then read the message, quickly mobilized to talk the renegade out of it, and stopped the GOP coup before it could happen. We usually don't cover state-level politics, but this is just too much. Really, Mr. Frederick, you don't live-blog about ongoing secret negotiations!

historians are going to have a field day with this in the future.

and so with the sunshine and great bursts of leaves

last weekend when ASP and i were surf camping, we decided that RVs could be great in theory, but with the exception of airstreams sadly lack any sort of design aesthetic. this teardrop trailor is a little more up ND's alley:

the photos are from the blog of foster huntington, a student at what appears to be colby college, who takes beautiful photographs and has a pretty sweet name.

i believe every man has a path laid out before him

a little crass for ND (i think this is about as fas as "red band" trailers have been pushed), but this trailer is just so impeccably put together: the music, the editing, the cinematography (by tim orr of david gordon green and michael showalter fame) this is how every trailer should be. despite the crude, tasteless humor you can tell just watching these few minutes that jody hill has followed up foot fist way with a film that will yet again bizzarely warm hearts against better judgement. plus i'm spotting jesse plemmons and aziz in the mix.

you remind me of someone in my car who is me

more purdy things to look at. these are all by cristiana couceiro, a portugese artist. definitely demonstrating a cali vibe. em segundo somente ao urso de panda na hierarquia portugese de impressionante, sua merda é assassino

nothing is as far away as one minute ago

ruscha inspired photo/word play from the ffffound universe. i don't know where these came from or who made them. they're a little angsty post-hardcore lyricky, but they remain nd approved.
