i can't explain the state that i'm in

denis darzacq won the 2007 world press photo prize for his series of photographs entitled "la chute" shot in the paris suburbs after the 2005 riots. his new-ish work is entitled hyper, and in case you're wondering, darzacq shoots with a manual camera and does not use photoshop.

your side, my side, and the truth

i watched the kid stays in the picture last night at novel designs hq. despite/due to the self-serving and garish nature of the film (it is narrated by evans himself) it is a wildly entertaining "documentary" that provides an informative look at hollywood over the last few decades. this clip played before the first internal screening of love story just weeks before it "exploded" (as evans puts it) at the us box office. seamless editing techniques are on display. one time i want to go to a film and instead of previews i want a studio exec to appear on screen and just speak to the camera about the upcoming hits....

she worked on my face until breaking my eyes

dan tobin smith has shot many presitigious uk print ad campaigns, but his landscape/still life (and i employ that term very very loosely) is especially interesting.

sometimes when I walk outside I see it right in front of me and so bright

despite the fact that about half of the posts are pictures of a cat/production assistant named "buffins", amoeba84 has some very cool typographic art on display.

i'll be out till the shimmering dies

a little while back, ASP posted about a incoming shipment of "night magic" glow-stick sunglasses. i think we just found the perfect occasion to wear them...

glow is a free dusk-to-dawn event on the santa monica pier on july 19. the event will feature multi-media artists and music from kcrw, dub lab, and machine project. this installation sounds particularly awesome: a portable brain wave monitor will be attached to ferris wheel riders and translated into a visual LED display on the side of ride

come on baby in our dreams we can live our misbehavior

in second grade, when you had to write about what you wanted to be when you grew up, most kids said something cool like astronaut or ballerina. i, for whatever reason, wanted to be a bed-sheet designer. so this site is like my childhood dreams come true. bonbonkakku is similar to threadless, only instead of designing t-shirts, you get to design bolts of fabric. the current competition ends july 31. (via it's nice that)

the storms in july, took off the trees, took off the plays-to-be

jari silomaki is a artist from helsinki, finland. since 2001, he has taken a landscape photo everyday and connected it to important personal or world political events by writing a caption in his meticulous cursive at the bottom of the print. his weather diary photos are currently on display at PS 1's arctic hysteria. these aren't even the best ones.

my weekends, i travel and i visit friends

The first single off of you and me the upcoming album from the walkmen with the perfectly tasteful cover art. merry christmas.

In the New Year - The Walkmen

yesterday any way you made it was just fine

vsl linked to a fantastic website collecting notable title sequences. it reminded me of this great post on daily film dose of some magnificent long shots.

the title sequence to bullitt is up there for me. i need to find more animated studio logos from seventies. the warner bros/seven arts logo is super slick.
