its tough living in la sometimes. the interweb makes it a little easier. the new yorker has most considerately made videos of many talks from the new yorker conference available here.

and they rode on in the friscolating dusklight...

here's to a stellar weekend

built well you're a strong letter i

tomlab, a record label located in koln, germany, has an "alphabet series" of 7-inches. some standouts: the letter X is a collaboration by owen pallet of final fantasy and zach condon of beirut; the letter S offers up two previously unreleased islands songs; K features two exclusive tracks by the blow; and last but not least letter L pits seabear against grizzly bear.

just quietly sobbing. i thought that would be pretty good.

the 'wolf parade" guest list on pitchfork today with dan boeckner is absolutely hysterical. the very first line he mentions his side project handsome furs and then NEVER mentions wolf parade or any one in it ONCE (though he does talking about touring with his hf bandmate/girlfriend in jamaica). but that's not even the best part. this is his answer to what his ringtone is:

"it's the theme song from "dr. who" [laughs]. but I was actually thinking of changing it to this audio clip I have, which I've kind of mixed into the record, of a man sobbing. just quietly sobbing. I thought that would be pretty good."

really, dude?

here's a clip of jonny and the moon playing the el rey (novel designs was there) to complement dan's willful dismissal of all thing wolf parade:

are you down with all the latest trends?

i was fortunate enough to catch the cool school at the la film fest last summer. it's a fantastic doc about the la modern art scene in the mid fifties-sixties narrated by jeff bridges. tonight a condensed version of the theatrical release is being broadcast on pbs. it is well worth checking out.

we all seem connected

Steven harrington from milom on Vimeo.

after watching this video, i've decided the three harrington prints currently adorning the walls of the novel designs secret headquarters may not be sufficient. a life size teepee and those rad bedsheets are clearly the next step.

"our mountain" is currently on display in paris and will stop in berlin next. you can follow the antics of s. harrington and crew here
